I am SO beyond thrilled to be able to share these images with you all today! A few weeks before Christmas a friend brought up a thought....we gave this thought some time and attention and ended up deciding that it should be more than a thought because it was a brilliant idea! Nova Scotia is an amazing place full of unique talent, personality and community and we wanted to reign in some of that local goodness and put it under one roof with one goal in mind.....'To celebrate Nova Scotia's independent, handmade and eco friendly wedding market!' We wanted to be a resource to the planning bride who may be looking for something slightly more rustic, whimsical or 'alternative' to the year to year wedding traditions. The Indie Wedding Social was born. We teamed up with Local Source and the lovely ladies from Elegant Productions and got to work collaborating with local wedding vendors and artisans to help inspire couples who are planning their weddings and give them fresh, new and local ideas! The show went amazingly and we had a GREAT turn out. We loved the community that came together to make this happen and would love to see this wedding show become an annual party/gathering (with amazing wedding ideas, music, food, drink and vendors!) that keeps growing and sharing! Here are a few photos from last Sunday afternoon:) Yes...there was the most delicious food there (keep reading and you will see who made it!) We had models showcasing some of the designers wedding fashions (that will ALL be 'Part ll" of this post!) and wedding tables set with flowers, china and food!
The Fine Tuners are Celtic fiddle entertainment and play their music at weddings and events in and around Halifax! They were the amazing live entertainment for the afternoon and did a phenomenal job! They totally make people want to dance....
Gillian Hannah Berry Designs was showcasing and selling her gorgeous collection of imaginative and experimental jewelry designs. I love her stuff because it is truly one of a kind! She never seems to run low on fresh ideas and often uses natural, recycled and found objects in her work. If you love her stuff as much as I do, stop by the Halifax Seaport Market where she sells weekly and check her out:) If you have any fashion sense at all...or need some, you HAVE to check out East of Ordinary. Her handmade bow-ties (from recycled fabric) are one of a kind! I have to say I have photographed many a groom in her bow-ties and absolutely love them:) She also does custom work so if you have an idea or fabric in mind it may be time to collaborate:) Lydia Buxton of lydi of the valley was there showcasing her stunning custom jewelry and metalsmith work! Brides you should TOTALLY check her out because she does custom engagement/wedding rings as well!:) LOVE Theif & Bandit's super cool designs. They hand print ALL their fabric and create their designs right here in Halifax! They have lots of super cool stuff on their website but I especially love the little girls dresses that would make amazing little flower girl dresses! (they do custom work, colours and prints!) Naphtali Carleton is quite the makeup artist. I have had the opportunity to work with her on several weddings and shoots and have nothing but amazing things to say about her and her incredible skills! She was at the show doing makeup touchups/consults and did all our models make-up before the show! Check back tomorrow to see Part 2 of this blog post where I share those pics! Jessica Fletcher is owner and hair stylist at True Beauty Spa and Wellness Centre in Bedford NS. Of all the different categories of hair styling, Bridal Hair is her absolute favourite! She was also the amazing mastermind behind the gorgeous bridal hair styles the models wore at the show! Check back soon for those images!:) Bishops Cellar was there sharing some of Nova Scotia's best bubbly! They are big supporters of Nova Scotia’s farm wineries and micro-brewers and believe that the wine world begins with the farmer. They source their wine primarily from small farm wineries, where extra care in growing their grapes and producing top quality wines are the focus. Is anyone else addicted to pretty stationary?? Ashley from Creative Destiny is a graphic designer who makes the most amazing wedding stationary! From invitations to programs and save the date cards her work is sooo good! From the looks of her selection/portfolio at the show...I believe she can do just about anything:) Yes of course there were cakes there too! I know you are all waiting to see this yummy part of the day so get your tastebuds ready:) Frosting Cake & Event Design are a custom order cake shop offering all things cake! They showcased some of their stunning cakes last weekend at the show and I couldn't help but notice their attention to detail! YES! Every party needs a photo-booth!...not just a wedding. I think my next birthday party should have one:) Check these guys out - Laugh It Up - if you think you want a photo-booth at your wedding but really cant be bothered to set one up yourself (like we always say we will but i mean common?...too much work;) I have had the great privilege of working with Valerie at Something Borrowed Vintage Rentals on several occasions and I have to say I just love it! She seriously has the BIGGEST (and still growing) collection of vintage rentals around. You want it?....she probably has it:) and she is SO fun to work with:) If you want to see some of her props in the last styled shoot we worked on together, check out the Blue Willow Shoot!:)
Local Source is to blame for all of this mouthwatering delicious and OH so PRETTY food! They do some of the BEST wedding catering I have ever tasted...and on top of that they are known for their exclusive use of fresh, seasonal and local ingredients!
The dish you see directly above was porcetta (pork loin wrapped in pork belly) served with sweet potato gnocchi & braised cabbage!
Local Source can also provide special wedding favours for your guests! Check out these adorable local preserves;)
This was their thyme roasted chicken served with cranberry compote, roasted parsnips & roasted French fingerling potatoes. Katelyn and Lauren (the wedding planners) from Elegant Productions teamed up with Chelsea Lee Flowers and Something Borrowed to create these 2 breathtaking tablescapes! I just can't get over them. I want to get married again (to David of course;) just so I can do THIS! The ladies from Elegant Productions are surreal to work with and know JUST how to bring everything together:) All those incredible flower arrangements you saw back there? Totally the crazy talent of the one and only Chelsea Lee Flowers! Any time I have had the privilege of working with Chelsea on a wedding or a shoot I have ALWAYS been beyond thrilled with the results....and so blown away by how she comes up with this stuff! There is no doubt that Chelsea is passionate about what she does....because it totally shows:) Lastly...I was there!;p and the show gave me the excuse to print (and print BIG) some of my recent work on canvase! I love love love seeing photos in print and was so honoured to be able to hang them on the walls at the show! I had an amazing time at the show and was busy as a bee trying to catch every photo of every detail that I could before the show ended! I barely stopped to take it all in, or meet many of you! If you were at the show and missed saying hello, feel free to browse my work and contact me here. Thanks for stopping by guys and check back soon for part 2!
